Visit from the Fairy Godmother

I’ve had a visit from the Fairy Godmother, AKA Appliances Online.  For those of you who don’t know about this Campaign here’s how it works.

Single Parent Dad received a Free Zanussi Washing Machine.

The lovely Rosie Scribble left this comment on his blog.

Ben (the Fairy Godmother) at Appliances Online read her comment and sent her one of these.I read Rosie’s post and left this comment.

Unfortunately, I didn’t receive a tumble dryer, but in hindsight, this is a good thing as I really don’t have anywhere to put one.  However, I did receive one of these today.

It’s the Ferrari of slow cookers and being the Queen of Slow Cooking I’m thrilled!  I can’t wait to try it out tomorrow.  We have Mediterranean Style Lamb Shanks on the Menu.

So, hopefully you’ve worked it out by now.  If you need me to spell it out, LEAVE A COMMENT on this blog.  A handful of people that comment on this post will be contacted by someone from Appliances Online who will give them freebies.  I’d lay it on thick and the odd shameless tweet to @apponline wouldn’t go amiss!

Good luck!

I'd love to hear your thoughts? Please leave a comment, share using the nifty buttons or subscribe to have future posts delivered to your inbox.

hmm let me think if they did them I would say a flash camera to learn how to take some fab photos or maybe a video camera to catch those special moments. But being practical I guess it would be a heater lol

Oooh lucky you :) Now if I were to wish for a new appliance it would probably be a washing machine seeing as ours is now about 8 years old or a nice coffee maker to give my husband for christmas would be a boost :)

Wow… your slow cooker puts my new, basic one to shame… am sure my fantastic new range cooker I get will make up for it though! Failing that, a lovely double electric underblanket would be accepted gratefully in these chilly temperatures.

Lucky you!! And very nice of Appliances Online. I am a ‘bit’ jealous as managed to melt the lid of my slow cooker *doh*

Wow lucky girl! If I could wish for anything, it would probably be a new camera! My digital one has decided to stop working, and even though I do love my iPhone, the photos aren’t the greatest!

How lovely to see the milk of human kindness is still flowing! Congratulations to all you lucky people. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside! If I were to make a wish to the Appliances Online Fairy, I would most certainly ask for a bread maker to replace the one I killed (totally melted the plastic! It stank!). Could never justify the expense of replacing it, but the smell of fresh bread is so homely and inviting, I do miss it!

Our electric ceramic hob cooker is on its last legs so I’ve got my fingers crossed that the fairy godmother dips on our house. We spent £350 on replacing our washing machine last month :(

Lucky you! I left a comment and got sent a box of chocolates LOL Better than nothing I guess. I do need a new dishwasher though as mine sounds like it is due to give up soon, so that’s probably what I should wish for!

They did offer me a bottle of Bollinger as an option. Must say it was a tough decision!

Too cool!
Well our kettle blew up a few months ago, into tiny bits (there are still bits in the wall) so a new kettle would make me smile.

14 Liz Burton December 7, 2010 at 8:46 pm

Haha how funny. Our kettle has just broken (again). We get through kettles like nobody’s business in this house. No idea why – suspect it’s the hard water. I’m thinking of witholding my water rates to cover the cost of kettles, irons, dishwashers, showers it has knackered!

A slow cooker is heavenly…in fact ours is in almost constant use, with the weather as it is because the range cooker that came with the house turns out to be as old as the house and therefore only useful for hob-cooking. I’ve been looking for a Christmas Cake recipe that you make in a slow cooker but yet to find one. Not a good look for an aspiring Domestic Goddess.

I love and adore Appliances Online. They are so extraordinarily generous and benevolent;-)

Well done you. Could really use a Gas Cooker, as for various reasons we haven’t had a cooker since we moved in, and have been doing all our cooking using a microwave and two electric frying pans.

Wow that’s great you must be so chuffed. I’ve never used a slow cooker before but people seem to swear by them so they must be good. Have fun aquainting yourself with you new kitchen resident.

I don’t need anything, but I just wanted to let you know that the slow cooker is fab, I have been playing with that very one and made some lush soup!

I would love a 3D tv but I know that is a big ask . Since my kids saw the 3d tv in Bluewater I did blog about it, as it made such an impression. They have gone on and on about seeing flying hamsters from G-Force. My wish is one day to get a 3D tv so they can watch these films at home as they can’t go to the cinema to see these films as they won’t be able to cope.

Oh our fridge is DIRE! The door barely shuts, it randomly changes from too warm to too cold, it smells funky and there is no freezer at all! Going outside to open the garage door and try and climb through to our tiny freezer out there is not an option when there is 2 feet of snow outside!

Oh how I dream of a fridge that doesn’t smell, keeps it’s temperature and doesn’t leak. How lovely it would be to be able to have ice cubes and frozen food at an easy reach and not a schlep away.

Oh to dream, to dream….

Well I’m no Cinderella but our microwave was older than we were and has decided not to work – which would’ve been ok if it wasn’t so cold!! Now there’s me in the morning heating the milk for the instant porridge in the pan!!

You’ll love the slow cooker – I use mine loads, especially this time of year. The one thing I’ve been wishing for is a new oven. Mine is broken and I am a cake baker and decorator. Until I can replace it my business is down the drain :-(

Reply

25 Lesley Harrison December 7, 2010 at 9:13 pm

That’s great! Have you cooked anything exciting in it yet?

We desperately need a new microwave – the front pad bits are coming off the old one, so you can’t enter certain times. Luckily we oven a lot of things, but the microwave is handy when you’re in a rush.

oh wow …. faith…… trust and pixie dust…… our DVD player is no more and our sky plus is nearly full (of kids movies) with Christmas coming a DVD player would be most amazing!!! (if you are listening Fairy Godmother)

OK, can I have a new cooker please, mine has been broken for 8 years, yes that really is 8 years. It works but the thermostat never has, the ceramic hob has been replaced twice and its pretty much a disaster. This seriously hampers my cooking efforts which are legendary. The thing is though, if it got replaced people might actually want to come over and eat food with us so maybe this isnt a good thing…hmmm!
Quite jealous of the slow cooker, I really really fancy once of those, I could stick things in it in the morning go off to work and come back to a decent dinner, the kids would be ever so disappointed though at the lack of fish-fingers and pizza.
Do you know what, now I come to think of it the best gadget i’ve had is an electric steamer. I used to cook everything in that till it broke…
I hope my mother in law is reading this, she is generally my fairy godmother and I have big hopes for Christmas! lol

Slow cookers are brilliant and perfect at this time of year, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

My wish would be for an oven, but not for me – for relations who haven’t had a working oven since the summer. I don’t know how they cope without it, especially feeding two young children.

Good for you. Enjoy the slow cooker – tomorrows menu sounds dinvine.

What I need a whole new kitchen – think you can help Appliances Online? lol Failing that a new cooker would be amazing. I need to start looking once the January sales starts.

I could do with a fairy godmother right now! My double hand me down fridge freezer from my Great-Aunt (who died 15 years ago, God rest her soul) is officially #$%^ – the seal has gone on the fridge door and the drawers in the freezer sit stacked on top of each because the rail things have all snapped off! If that wasn’t bad enough then the nob has come of the inner door of my oven meaning I have to use a fork to open it every time I cook – but I can live with that! Lol Im actually laughing as I type because it’s sounds ridiculous!

Awesome , looks like a great slow cooker.

We would do anything for a new cooker. My son blew ours up with an deodorant can and the cheap 2nd hand replacement we bought is horrible . Everthing burns on the bottom and frozen on top

Do they do full time nannies, bigger house or 28 hour days? Any of those would make my life A LOT easier!

But my husband would say a TV to replace our very ancient one. When the weather people are doing their forecasts we can only see half of them as it is very much not a widescreen in any shape or form. He quite fancies one of the Oxford Tonight weather girls so keeps trying to buy a new TV, but I’ve banned him from spending the cash until the very long list of other stuff that we need has been bought (a new car mainly, we can’t fit 3 car seats in the back seat, so I have to squeeze my ample backside in whilst one of my sons small bottoms lives in luxury in the front seat – grrrr).

You lucky things… enjoy the slow cooker :o).. i won something once upon a time.. it was a godzilla jacket! :/ it looked like a fishermans jacket with a giant lizard on it.. the nearest i come to fishing is every 6 month check up at the dentist where i watch the fish in the tank happily swimming around and around lol..
You will have to blog some of your recipes for the slow cooker :o)

Congratulations. The Christmas fairy found you. I wish the fairies would find me too. I broke the crock pot part of my slow cooker and haven’t replaced it yet. Enjoy yours!
If I could wish for anything it would be something for the children. My oldest would love a coffee machine to make herself frothy coffees for when revising. My youngest would want a small tv with dvd player built in so she could watch her barbie videos without being moaned at. My son would want a gaming device of some sort and middle daughter has no desire for electricals.

To be honest anything to help a family of 6 at this time of year would be amazing

Well, I’d be a liar if I didn’t say that just about anything good happening to us would be pretty amazing. What I’d really like is a small and powerful vacuum cleaner that the girls and I could use easily in our 3 storey house. Then we could keep cleaner and tidier, I’d finally know it was the right time to stop having my occasional cleaner that I can’t afford but can’t bring myself to stop paying for, we’d then have more money and be more of a team working on keeping things nice together and we’d be able to afford to go on holiday and shake off some of the dismal horribleness of the last year.

*cues violins* :)

I have just had a larder fridge from the fairy godmother but I bought and paid fir it. What a wonderful company to buy things from I had my fridge within two days of ordering and had five phone calls and two texts to keep me informed. I will be buying all my appliances from them in future and I’m going to have a look to see if they have coffee machines next. Thanks for this post.
