Iphone Apps for Kids

PianoBall – Fun with Learning (Available from Itunes for £1.19)

As an adult, I totally didn’t get this app at first!  My first instinct was to try and work out what you were supposed to do with it.  The mind boggled.   I hit the little ‘i’ and still none the wiser.  However, it’s similar to the philosophy of Poisson Rouge,

‘When small children pick up objects, they invent new ways of holding and using them. Thus there is no right or wrong way of using anything…… It’s up to the children to find what they want and to grow their naturally exploring mind’

Madame really likes this app; it introduces her to sounds, instruments and colours.  As a family, we aren’t musical, so I like that this app gives her an opportunity to explore music.  They also have built in differentiation with activities suitable for Babies, Toddlers and Pre Schoolers!  I like anything that grows with your child.

My only suggestion for the developers is that the back button is really fiddly.  I could barely do it.  Plus, it’s a wee bit pricey.  I’d be happy to pay 59p for it.

Overall this is what we thought
