Should you put Fish in Curry?

Can you settle a debate between @chickenruby and me?  She says you should never under any circumstance have Fish in Curry and the mere thought makes her feel sick.  She likes fish and she likes curry but she says you shouldn’t mix the two.  I on the otherhand, have started cooking more fish curries recently and I really like them.

Here is a Haddock Curry that I made earlier and it was delicious.  The recipe can be found here.

Disclosure:  The fish was provided by John Milne of Delish Fish and is part of Fish is the Dish Campaign to encourage families to eat more fish from sustainable sources.

  1. I’ve never been a lover of mixing both until recently. I left my freezer door open overnight and ended up with defrosted raw prawns, tuna steaks, haddock and vegetables. So I threw them all in my slow cooker with Patak’s madras paste and ended up with one of my favourite curries. The different fish actually go together quite well too!

  2. My hubby decided to try a fish curry last week at our local curry house! He absolutely hated it and asked them to make him another. In the mean time he nipped outside for a fag and an ambulance pulled up, turned out the chef had chopped a finger off and was whipped off to A&E.
When he went back inside they produced another fish curry which he says was a few kippers with curry sauce on it and he left that too!
Please bear in mind that my hubby partakes of many pints of strong ale on a wednesday evening and he also doesn’t like fish much either! And his memory becomes cloudy too!
And, yes, when he told me the tale I expected him to say the chefs finger was in his curry too, lol!

  3. I love fish and curry. In fact, kedgeree is one of my favourite meals. Inspired by your good self, I did my usual dansak or dhansak or however you bloody spell it, tonight, and added the Delish Fish haddock instead of our usual chicken. It was awesome.

  4. i know mediocre mum is right – the curry queen, madhur jaffrey gives plenty of fishy curry recipes & she can’t be wrong!!!!
also i happen to know that fishy-spicy-rice (see eva’s eats blog) is a favourite in the MM household
