Big Flowers Tunic and Butterfly World

I always struggle when I shop for my 5 year old daughter. When I hit the High Street I become increasingly frustrated with the tat that is on offer. Why do retailers subject us to Hello Kitty? Do people really buy it? I’m always on a quest for good quality clothes, simplistic but still with a hint of style.

I tend to find myself, when shopping online, leaning towards Swedish Clothing companies for kids. They seem to have just what I’m looking for; quality and style. Two of my favourites are Polarn O. Pyret and Me & I.

I don’t mind paying a bit more for quality.

Last week, during school holidays we went to Butterfly World which is local to us. Madame, insisted that she

“needed something bright to wear so that the butterflies would be attracted to her”

She chose the Big Flowers Tunic from Me & I. Which made perfect sense, butterflies like flowers, right?

Another added bonus, when eating chocolate the tunic is rather forgiving and hides some of the mess.

With spring teasing us, I had a little play with putting together an outfit based on the Tunic. This season calls for layering. The jacket and shoes are from Vertbaudet, another favourite and the leggings are from Polarn. However, it was a bit of a dream as the outfit would cost about £100 and I can’t justify spending that much on a 5-year old. I’m not known for my fashion sense but what do you reckon?

We received this gorgeous girl’s dress from Château de Sable, who offer a chic collection of French children’s designer clothes, a couple of months ago. My 5 year old has been desperate to wear it but as you know the weather hasn’t been very agreeable, which is an understatement, it’s been downright awful. It came beautifully wrapped and would be a perfect gift.

However, this weekend is looking more promising, with temperatures up to 20 degrees forecast. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Silly Slippeez Slippers

These slippers made us laugh a lot! As you can see, as you walk along the ears go up and down. The shocked expression on the Zebra’s face is hilarious. They also have Sharks, Dinosaurs and Kitties.

Unfortunately, the first pair that were sent to us stopped working after about 5 minutes, but we were sent a replacement pair tout de suite and haven’t had any problems.

I was really hoping to get a video of or 5 year old dancing in them but my docking station has decided to call it quits. So you’ll have to use your imagination. We were a bit dubious about her climbing the stairs in them, but they seem fine.

You could feel the quality as soon as I took it out of the bag. The shirt is so soft you can’t help but stroke it. My husband thinks she looks like a Lumber Jack, but what does he know! It looks great with black leggings and winter boots.

The attention to detail on the jacket is also impressive; everything from reflective strips, to little holes to put your thumb through to a Chin cover to protect against the zip from chafing.

Top 5 Movies from a 5 Year Old

I had a bit of a chat with my daughter last night as I was curious what her favourite movies were. I was pleasantly surprised that many of her choices were the classics. I know some of them can be a bit dark and I’m still personally scarred from when Bambi’s mother was shot by the hunter but I’d much prefer her to watch the classics than a lot of the crap that is on offer at the moment.

So without further adieu in reverse order:
