Dad’s race!

My husband really makes me laugh sometimes.  I never took him for a competitive dad.  We went to our daughter’s school fair on Saturday, our first one in fact.  There was a wheel barrow race.  Not competing against others directly but a timed one.  The person with the highest score wins.

The first thing Hubby did was ask what the fasted time was, it was 9.2 sec.  This should have sent the alarm bells off.  Sadly, but not surprisingly, he came in in 10.4 secs.  I thought that would be the end of it but no it wasn’t.  He obsessed about it for the rest of the day.  At one point he started studying other dad’s technique saying ‘I see how they do it, they are doing it without shoes on’.  Then on the way to the pub after, he started talking about going back and having another go!

I did have to break it to them that he’s unfit, not a runner and probably 10 years older than the other dads.

I’m so glad he’s not coming to sports day this week!  I was just reading a story about a dad who got so carried away in a Father and son race and dragged his child across the finish line!  Another dad entered his 5 year old in a 3k fun run; the child completed it but threw up afterwards!  Eeek!
