Strange Shopping Habits

Please tell me I’m not the only one that does this???

When I go shopping I organise all of the food on the belt into groups, depending on where it goes in the kitchen.  This saves me precious time when I’m putting the groceries away, helps keep things cold and the bread and eggs don’t get crushed.

I think its genius but my hubby thinks it’s insane and verging on OCD.

  1. I do exactely the same but I arrange the sub groups into weights so the heavier stuff goes at the bottom of the bag!

  2. Perfectly sensible to me as I do exactly the same, makes life easier when you get home to unpack! Though I have been known to put a bottle of white wine in with the freezer stuff, just to speed the chilling later on ;)

  5. No, I'm just the same! It all goes on to the belt in order and I always pack it in the bags according to where it goes (fridge, store cupboard etc)

I'm not generally a very organised person but this is probably the one thing that I am a bit OCD about – but like you say, it makes for such an easier life when you get home and have to unpack it all. That is the worst bit! So anything to make it easier I say! :-)

  7. Ok, well I write my shopping list according to the aisles in the shop and I also bag my shopping according to where it goes in the kitchen! I then place the shopping in the boot, with heavy stuff in one place and delicates in another…so nothing gets squished!

It makes perfect sense to me but my other half just doesn't get it!

  9. Yip me too, and when the little man comes shopping it takes forever – he has to pack all the 'heavy' things first – I follow your system. Oh gawd this is my life!! I was going to marry David Cassidy…………..

  11. I do it too! hehe OH used to laugh at me when he first moved in but now is worse than I am with it lol

  13. It's a nightmare when the sea cadets want to pack your bags too – how can they possibly get it right?

  14. I think it's a chick thing. My Mrs does the same. Naturally I throw it all in the same bag to enrage her.

  15. I TOTALLY do that! It infuriates me when my boyfriend does the shopping and the bags are all higgledy piggledy (although I have at least taught him to put the eggs on the top!)

  17. Of course he's right!

I arrange my goods in packing order. ie Heavy bottles, square/box stuff (bottom of bag) squidgy non breakable/won't ruin things (pasta, rice etc) followed by cheese, crisps, paper, other light stuff on top. Works a treat and all the veg goes in a seperate bag spuds on the bottom with swede and carrots etc. Sliced bread also gets it's own bag

    Hope this helps :)

  18. I do the same too – that and heavy stuff has to go on the belt first, so it goes in the trolley first and doesn't squash everything else lol

  19. Not quite as OCD as one of my friends – she organises everything on the belt in order of eventual storage, so she has a bag for each cupboard, the fridge and the freezer!

    1. My own OCD is limited to filling the dishwasher and pegging clothes out on the rotary drier: each item has to have matching pegs, and each side has to have pegs of the same colour. I hate it when people offer to help and then mess the system up!

  20. I do exactly the same and have even trained hubby to unload the trolley to my preferance. One problem though. I then have to put all the bags on the floor when I get to the car to load the heavy ones in the bottom then put light bags on top….this is where hubby loses his patience with me, especailly if it's raining.

  21. It is entirely logical and very sensible! I group it together aswell, my mum taught me to do it with crushables firmly on the top. A recent development has happened with the use of reusable shopping bags. I put the contents of the trolley onto the belt in order that they will go in the shopping basket with heavy/non-fragile on the bottom. It means I have to break my shopping up into ‘bag’ sections as it goes on the belt, in addition to frozen/fridge/veg/soft etc. No-one is allowed to help me pack.
