Thank you cards using left over Wrapping Paper!

thank you cardsWhat on earth can you do with all the left over wrapping paper?  It takes you ages to wrap them and about 5 seconds for the kids to tear them apart.  If I’m honest we do burn a lot of it but I do hold a small selection back for crafting.

I’ve done this in the past for Birthdays but decided to do it again for Christmas as it’s incredibly easy.  I’m a bit of a stickler for Thank you cards as I feel it’s very important  but do find them taxing at times.

You will need

  • Selection of wrapping paper
  • PVA glue
  • Water
  • A4 paper
  • Prit Stick
  • Scissors
  • Wiggly Scissors (Pinking or Scalloped)
  • A4 Card – any colour will do.

How to:

  1. Tear the wrapping paper into piecesthank you cards
  2. Mix a bit of PVA glue and water
  3. Cover the A4 paper, the more random the better using the PVA GlueThank You cards
  4. Leave to dry
  5. Cut out a random selection of shapes.  We chose hearts as it as for Thank you cards, but you could be a bit more creative and cut out a big T and Y for Thank you.photo (24)
  6. Cut the A4 card in half and then fold to make A5 cards.
  7. Use the Prit Stick to Glue the shapes on the front of the cards
  8. You can use the wiggly scissors to cut the edges of the card.

Voila you’re done!

If you decide to have a go I’d love to see the results!  I’d also love more ideas for using up some of this paper.

I hope you’ve had a fabulous Christmas!

Valentine’s Day Cards (Fingerprinted)

I wish I could take credit for these lovely Fingerprint Valentines Day cards but once again it was thanks to a Google Image Search.

My daughter is 4 and managed it and I think you could do it with young babes as well but you’d have to position their fingers.

You will need:

  • White paper
  • Selection of coloured paint (I used red, orange and pink)
  • Coloured Card
  • Prit Stick
  • Gel Pen

How to do it:

1) Have your children create a couple of sheets of the heart fingerprints so you have a few good ones to choose from

2) Cut and fold the card
3) Once the prints dry carefully tear them out.  If you’re kids are old enough they could probably do this bit themselves.
4) Use the Prit Stick to glue the fingerprint hearts onto front of card.
5) Personalise them, I used a silver pen

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love Rocks!

Whenever I need inspiration for crafting, I always turn to my mate Maggie from Redtedart.com and once again she has come through trumps or should I say hearts!

These Love Rocks caught my eye as they are so simple and required very little in terms of materials.  I think they’re going to make perfect Valentine’s Day gifts. However, posting to Canada or South Africa is not an option.

You will need

  • PVA glue (we watered ours down a bit)
  • Rocks
  • A selection of fabric
  • Scissors

Method

  1. Dig some rocks out from under the frozen earth, wash in a colander and leave dry.
  2. Get your neighbour around who is brilliant with anything crafty and blag her to bring fabric, glue and scissors.
  3. Sit back and watch her do her magic.
  4. All joking aside the 4-year olds enjoyed it for as long as their short attention spans allowed.  But, Eva and I could be found carrying on long after they left the room.  However, she made me cut out my own hearts!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Santa Stars!

Crafts are not my strong point. Luckily, I have my own personal mentor @redtedart. She often sends me links to things that she thinks we can manage. Last week she sent me a link to these adorable Santa Christmas decorations. As usual, I didn’t have a lot of the supplies at home, namely the cotton wool, but managed to adlib. What do you think?

Gone are the days that I have a perfectly colour coordinated tree…my chocolate and gold theme is no longer.  I’m going to have a go at these next! Wish me luck!  (click on the image for the instructions)

Happy Christmas!

Toilet Roll Tick Tocks

Yesterday was a really loooooong day!  Madame has managed to pick up some infectious skin disease so I had to keep her in and away from other kids.  Plus, it was chucking it down!  It’s only a very small case of Impetigo but if it’s not treated properly it can spread and look quite nasty.  I’ll leave you to google image that one for yourself.  Ick!  Oh the joys of parenthood.

Luckily, I had a craft idea inspired by @redtedart up my sleeve.  Madame is obsessed with telling the time.  She is forever asking me what time it is, even though she really doesn’t have a clue.  She often tells me it’s twenty eighty or points at the clock saying it’s not bed time yet. So, these Toilet Paper Roll Tick Tocks were perfect and very easy to make.  Madame loves them and all the fashion conscious dolls and stuffed animals in our house are wearing them too.  She even went to bed wearing three!  Bless.
