5 iPad Apps for Halloween 2013

With half-term looming, Halloween around the corner and weather forecasters warning about storms coming next week, I spent a bit of time looking for a few Halloween iPad apps in case we have a few days stuck indoors.

We’ve had a really good play with some of the Halloween iPad Apps today and I can recommend the following.

iPad Apps for Halloween

Halloween iPad Apps

Carve A Pumpkin from Parents Magazine – virtually cut out pumpkins, either free hand or using their shapes, without all the mess and save the images to your camera roll.

Haunted Halloween Escape by TeraLumina – My daughter is only 6 and this was rated 9+.  I was impressed with my daughter and husband’s perseverance as I would have given up.  You have to work your way through the room, finding all the clues and collecting things that you need to solve the puzzle (e.g wooden stake to kill the vampire).  They spent an hour from start to finish trying to solve it and suceeded.  It’s inspired us to download more of these walk throughs from TeraLumina

Casper Scare School – Costume Closet by Mindshapes probably the least scariest ghost of all time.  Can you remember what Halloween Costume he was wearing? Have fun dressing him and his ghoulish friends up.

Sneak HD by Made in Me – How quietly can you sneak up on your iPad?  If you can get to the iPad, snap a photo of the monster without him hearing you, you win.  See how many monsters you can collect.  Great to play with friends as well.

Mask Jumble Halloween – using the iPad camera create hilarious photos of you and your friends.

Win two Halloween Outfits from the Nutmeg Collection and a £10 Voucher

Here Comes Halloween!

Like most other kids, my 6 year old has always loved getting dressed up.  She will wear fancy dress to parties that aren’t even fancy dress.  I distinctly remember last year her turning up to a party in fancy dress, on more than one occasion, and the other parents couldn’t help but laugh and knew exactly who it was right away.  I do love the confidence and not in a rush for her to grow out of it.

Last Christmas she asked for a Donkey Fancy dress outfit and I obliged, this is after I worked her down from getting a real donkey.  For Halloween last year she went as a rather scary werewolf and managed to frighten the life out of a friend of mine and two dogs went for her until she took the mask off!  Last week when I went to the shops her dad and her got into the Halloween costumes in the loft, hence the Cruella De Vil outfit.

Fancy Dress for Kids

I’m not sure what she wants to go as for Halloween but I did hear the Grim Reaper muted.  Not sure how appropriate that is and whether they have one in a 6.  At least, she isn’t into going as a Disney Princess as Halloween, to me, is about all thinks spooky!

Win an adorable Halloween Outfit from the Nutmeg Collection

Sausage and Caramelized Onion Jacket Potatoes

This is the perfect meal for either ‘All Hallows Eve’ or Guy Fawkes night.  This recipe serves two but is easily doubled, tripled, etc.  On this occasion I haven’t used my slow cooker but you can do jacket potatoes in one.

Time: 10 minutes

Serves:  2

Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:

  • Caramelized Onion and Sausage2 Jacket Potatoes – you could make your own but we cheated and used McCain’s as they can be done in the microwave in minutes.
  • 1TBSP of Olive Oil
  • 1 small red onion, finely sliced
  • 4 good quality sausage, cooked and cut into chunks
  • 3 TBSP Red Onion Chutney
  • Handful of Fresh Parsley

Method:

  1. You could opt for a Delia method of doing the Jacket potatoes but that can take up to two hours, alternatively you can microwave your own which takes about 10 minutes or like us use McCain’s Ready Baked Jackets.
  2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the onions and fry until soft, approx 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the sausage chunks and heat through
  4. When the potatoes are cooked, add the chutney to the sausages and allow to bubble.  When heated through, open the potatoes slightly and top with the caramelized red onion and sausage mixture.

Enjoy!

Iphone Apps for Kids: Casper’s Scare School

People must think I’m in the back pocket of Mindshapes as I’m always raving about their apps. However, I think there success it due to the fact that they have consultant teachers on board so you end up with fun apps that are also educational.

I was sent a promo code for their latest iPhone app Casper’s Scare School (£1.99), which was released just in time for Halloween and it’s a scream (excuse the pun)!  Kids are faced with a character in fancy dress and they have 10 seconds to study it. Then they have to try and remember the ghoulish outfit. It’s great for short term memory. Honestly, it’s ‘fang’tastic!

Fancy Dress Costumes in time for Halloween!

With Halloween around the corner I thought this may be of interest to you (there’s a discount code at the bottom of this post).  I was sent a selection of Fancy Dress outfits for my 4-year-old from Angel Fancy Dress to review.  However, they also do costumes for adults if you have any parties coming up or if you’re into that sort of thing? ;-)

Madame is at that cute stage of dressing up and we do have quite a selection of outfits, everything from Princesses to Pirates, but it’s nice to have a few new ones in the dressing up box.  We received Jasmine, Two Goldilocks outfits and a Mermaid outfit.  Personally, I think the Jasmine and the Mermaid are a bit racy but that’s probably me just being an old woman!

However, Madame’s favourite is the Goldilocks outfit.  She goes everywhere in it including Sainsbury’s, Nursery and even the pub.  Sadly, though we don’t have 3 bears so she’s been dressing up as Goldilocks and the three squirrels!  Bless!

The customer service has been excellent and the delivery was very quick so you still have time for Halloween.

Angel are offering my readers 15% off their website up until the 31st Oct at Midnight, they also have a special offer on shipping at the moment so you get the discount and also standard shipping for only £2.50.

Just enter MEDIOCRE15  at the checkout!

Happy Halloween!
