My Twitter Journey

The other day I was doing some laundry and I don’t know why, but when I glanced at our rather large basket of unmatched socks it made me think of twitter!

When I first started twitter I felt like a lonely sock on the clothes line, blowing in the wind, talking to myself.

In time, I started to collect some other odd socks but sometimes I couldn’t see the connection.

After awhile I started to make quite a few matches, with the odd sock still hanging around.

Along the way I’ve had to throw out a few socks as they had holes in them and some I’ll never find a match to, but I have kept quite a few odd socks as they make it more interesting.

Is this similar to your experience with Twitter?  Please do leave a comment.

Thanks to the lovely Susan (@CocaBeenSlinky), a very good twitter mate who is always laughing, for the illustrations. They’re fab aren’t they? She doesn’t advertise herself as an artist, but I’m sure, if you’re like me and blog but can’t draw and struggle to find copyright free images, she may knock you some up for a small fee! I’m paying her in wine.

  1. I know just where you’re coming from! Yes, lots of odd socks, the odder the better. I feel like I’m particularly old and maybe a bit smelly; a sock that’s been through the wash a few too many times. I like the drawings very much btw.

    1. I love the fact that we spend time with people, who are very interesting, more than we normally would!

  2. Ha! This is exactly it. I started on twitter before my wedding, and started off with lots of wedding socks, some became friend socks while other were discarded and replaced with other more matching socks, such as blogger socks :)

  3. Haha, love the sock analogy! There are many socks with holes in and indeed smelly spam sock that get blocked and go straight in the bin! Always good to know that you’re in control of your washing line, you can un-peg those boring socks when ever you like.

    Great blog. Todd @Warwicktweetup

    1. I’m one of those constant blowers! No idea why people put up with me, but grateful and love it.

  4. I hadn’t really thought about it until reading this piece. It is very profound and I will retweet it. Good observation.

  5. What a great metaphor to use! It fits in so many ways. Stinky socks, odd socks, socks with holes, silk socks, woolly socks, some sexy stockings even… all have a place in twitter…whether you choose to keep them or chuck them out of your sock draw.
