5 Quick and Easy Hairstyles for Little Girls

5 Easy Hairstyles for Little Girls

I’m crap at doing my daughter’s hair and it often resembles a burst mattress!  For the last two years running I’ve forgotten to even brush her hair on school photo day. I wouldn’t have bought the photos but parental guilt kicked in.

During the school year I don’t have time to be faffing around with hairstyles in the morning, getting dressed in time is challenging enough.  My repertoire didn’t go beyond putting it in a knotted ponytail.

As it’s the long weekend and as predicted it’s raining so we thought we’d spend a few minutes playing hairdresser trying out quick and easy hairstyles for little girls.

I don’t want her to get hung up on her hair but was looking for quick and easy ways to keep it out of her eyes when she is running around playing.

Please be gentle, as it was my first attempt but with a bit of practice, I reckon they would work but most importantly she loved them.

The pictures on the left are the inspiration and my daughter is on the right.

Simple Twist

How to tie up little girl's hair

This one is dead easy.  Simply twist the hair and clip into place.  Thanks to Girly Do‘s for the inspiration.

Classic Plaited Pigtails

Classic Plaited Pigtails

I love the simplicity and innocence of this one.  She still looks like a little girl.  Simply put hair into two ponytails and then plait.  Found at I know hair!

High Ponytail with Hairband

Ponytail with Hairband

Clip her fringe back.  Then using fingers, messily gather hair on top of her head and put in a ponytail.  Finish with a colourful hairband.  Perfect for keeping her hair out of her face while she is playing and learning.  Check out Latest Hairstyles for some fab inspiration.

Bunches of Colour

Bunches of Colour

This one probably made her yelp the most.  Simply start with one pigtail on her forehead and then progressively, in section, add more bunches.  Using multi-coloured elastics makes more dramatic.

Knotted Hair

Funky Knotted Hair

I can’t believe after all the time I spend trying to get the knots out of her hair I voluntarily put some more in??? Unfortunately, I ran out of little elastics, but as you can see if I carried on it would have been very effective.  There is a video tutorial at Girly Do’s Hairstyles.

I hope to slowly add more easy hairstyles.  Which one do you like best? Do you have any suggestions?

My Friday Five: Quick Games to Play with Kids

Here a small handful of games you can play with your kids when they’re bugging you to do something with them, you can’t be arsed getting the craft box out and dinner will be ready in 5 minutes.

  1. Rock Paper Scissors – I successfully taught my five year old, although she does have a tendency to cheat.  Remember, paper covers rock, scissors cut paper and rock smashes scissors.  We don’t include dynamite.
  2. Sofa Statues – one person sits on the sofa, with a straight face the other person attempts to make them laugh.  This usually results in a lot of tongue poking, bum waggling and really bad jokes.
  3. Sausages – take turns asking each other questions (e.g  What do you clean your ears with?) you’re only allowed to answer ‘sausages’.  If you laugh, you lose.
  4. Guess the letter – take turns writing letters on each other’s backs with your finger and the other person has to guess which letter sound.  It’s great if your child is learning phonics.
  5. Shoe Tying – take your shoe off and give it to your child to practice tying.  This is something I need to do more of as Velcro seems to put this skill off till later and later.

Do you have any quick games that you play with your kids?

Pasta in a flash!

Quick Creamy Tomato Pasta

As a busy mum, I sometimes get so wrapped up in things I forget about organising meals for Madame until she says ‘mummy I’m hungry’.  Quick check of the watch and realise, yes, it’s dinner time and I need something quick.  This is one of those recipes that you can throw together in about 10 minutes.

Ingredients

2 TBSP olive oil

½ an onion chopped

1 tin of chopped tomatoes

2 TBSP of cream cheese

1 tsp of dried basil

50g of pasta per child (any shape will do)

Method

  1. Start cooking the pasta.  I’m not going to tell you how as the instructions are on the back of the pack.
  2. To make the sauce.  Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions until soft (approx 3-5 minutes).
  3. Tip in the chopped tomatoes, bring to a boil, turn down add the cream cheese and basil.  Heat through.
  4. Drain the pasta a mix into the sauce.

I tend to serve it with sweet corn or cucumber slices on the side.  If I have a bit more time to preheat the oven, as ours takes about 30 minutes to heat, I serve it with garlic bread.
