Kids and Make-up don’t mix!

Would you let your 4 year old wear make-up or worse, put it on you?

I don’t normally wear make-up as I’m such a natural beauty!  Joking aside, I don’t do it because no matter how long I spent on it, the result would be the same…Yes, I’m passed it!  This is what I normally wear, yes, just mascara and lip salve.

However, I was given a challenge…allow your kid to do your make-up with no direction or input and with free access to your make-up.  Gulp!  This required a glass of wine or two.

This is me before….after I removed my lovely white linen work shirt.

I honestly don’t have a huge supply of make-up but, over the years, I have accumulated a stock for Fancy dress and 80s blue eye-shadow.  I still have the same blusher from 8 years ago.

The Joker was a bit enthusiastic.  I have to admit the eye-lash curlers were slightly painful and can’t help thinking lipstick should go on the lips?

So what do you think???  Stunner?? Hear me roar!

After watching her work her magic, I’m convinced I need to spend a bit more time on myself.

I don’t normally join into this type of thing but this one is absolutely hilarious so I’m tagging the following fellow bloggers.

  • Annie from Just Annie QPR
  • Monika from Mum on the Brink
  • Lisa from Mummy Whisperer
  • Helen from Actually Mummy
  • and for a laugh, no chance in hell she will do it, but Sally Whittle from Who’s the Mummy

Honestly, ladies have fun, it was one of those lovely mother and daughter moments and remember Baby Wipes are  your friend.  Can’t wait to see the photos!

Tree Top Flyers, Chase Canyon

‘Put your knees to your chest, legs apart, chin to your chest and grit your teeth’ sounded a lot like child-birth to me but in fact is the landing position for Ziplining.

I’m absolutely terrified of heights; well in fact, I’m scared of a lot of things but most of my fears boil down to a fear of death.  However, I went Zip lining in Chase Canyon, BC, Canada with my niece, hubby and friends yesterday.  Unfortunately, our daughter wasn’t old or heavy enough.

The scariest part for me was the training line, it’s not as high or long as the others, but the suspended stairway to the platform was unnerving as it swayed from side to side as you walked up it.  My technique was not to look down come neither love nor money, if I did I would have bottled it.

On the way over to the platform, I had a quiet word with Daniel, one of the owners, just to let him know I was terrified of heights so he let me go first.  He did admit later that they secretly like it when people are scared and on one occasion they had to ‘boot’ a lady off the platform; but she did ask them to do so.  She was fine going up but chickened out at the top so when she wasn’t expecting it, after she was safely connected (obviously), they just pushed her off the edge.  Apparently, she loved it and said thanks.

The drive up to the lines in the Canyon was hairy to say the least with a sheer drop on one side.  I was so glad I was sitting on the other side of the van and spent most of the journey working out my escape route through the window in case it rolled, but once you got to the top the scenery was stunning.

The lines in the Canyon were not as scary as the training platform nor the drive up, but flying through the trees, over waterfalls and close to the Canyon walls was exhilarating.

They’ve only been open for a few weeks but we were truly impressed with the level of safety and customer service.  They’re really a friendly bunch of guys that put me totally at ease.  Thanks to the team at Tree Top Flyers for a great day out and we hope to see you again next year.

How to ‘Pin’ on an iPad (Pinterest)

In the evenings, I like to sit on the sofa in front of the TV with my Ipad and do a bit of surfing.  Last night, I became a bit frustrated that I couldn’t ‘Pin’ things with the stroke of a button.  I tried the Pinterest App but didn’t get on with it.

In the end, I found these detailed instructions at Jemsweb for adding a bookmarklet to my Safari browser.  However, for the life of me I couldn’t copy the code and I struggled to find the ‘+’ button that he was referring to as I don’t have one on my browser.

So, in the end, this is what I did….

1) Open Safari on your Ipad

2) Navigate to www.jemsweb.com/2011/03/bookmarklets-for-ipad?

3) Add it as a Bookmark by clicking on the square with an arrow in it, to the left of the URL.  Rename it ‘Pin it’ and save.

4) If you are able to copy the following code below using your iPad then go straight to step 8.

[textbox rows="3"]javascript:void((function(){var%20e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());[/textbox]

5) Now this bit required getting off the sofa and going over to my laptop as I couldn’t copy the code using my iPad.  So, I copied it from the web page, and then emailed it to myself on my PC.  Odd I know, but did the trick.

6) Then I went back to my iPad, my place was still warm on the sofa.

7) Open your email and copy the code.

8) Then go back to safari, click on the Bookmarks, it looks like an open book.  Then choose Bookmarks Bar>Edit>Pin It!

9) Replace the address that is in the URL box with the code that you have copied.

10)  You should now see Pin it on your Bookmarks Bar

Now when you come across something you like and want to share on Pinterest, just click Pin it!

Happy Pinning!

Is this now when you tell me there is a much easier way of doing this???

I want my Yellow Tweetdeck back!

My computer kept freezing and I finally worked out that it was Tweetdeck that was causing this.  I’ve had it happen before and usually sorted it with an uninstall and a reinstall of the newest version of Tweetdeck along with Adobe Air, which can be very flaky.

The Problem

However, I receive a very nasty shock when I did so.  The people of Twitter have been messing about with it and I really didn’t like the new ‘Blue’ version.  It took me ages to work out how to turn of the sound notifications and I couldn’t turn off the real-time updates.  I follow nearly 2000 people so you can see it was a bit of a problem, my timeline was making me motion sick and it sounded like a techno rave!

I’m a heavy user of Tweetdeck, with over 100,000 tweets and I manage several accounts.  I’ve tried others like Seismic and Hootsuite.  I use Hootsuite on my phone and Ipad but I really don’t get on with it on my desktop, as it’s missing a couple of my favourite features, like auto-complete of names, new followers column and the ability to filter tweets.

Thanks to @tipyourhat, @chickenprincess and @secretstef I managed to resurrect the old yellow version of Tweetdeck.

Here is what I did:

1) Via the control panel I uninstalled both Tweetdeck and Adobe Air.

2) This is the important bit.  Then I ran a registry cleaner to remove any redundant files that may have been left behind.  The first time I tried to reinstall I didn’t do this and the problem with crashing resumed.  I use the free version of CCleaner.

3) Then I reinstalled Adobe Air as you need it to run Tweetdeck.

4) Then using the link at the bottom of this post, Old Tweetdeck please come back, I reinstalled the older version of Tweetdeck.

Thanks everyone!  Normal tweeting has resumed!
