Personalized Gifts for Kids from TinyMe

Win a £40 Voucher to Spend at TinyMe

Personalized Blocks

I do love the personalized gifts for kids on TinyMe.co.uk.  They have everything from bags to stationery to clothing to name labels.  We got one of their duffle bags a couple of years ago and it’s still going strong, my daughter uses it for her PE kit, the amount of stuff they need in primary school is nuts; including indoor and outdoor kit plus two pairs of shoes. Goodness knows how we remember everything each week. We also often use it for weekends away, squashes nicely in the boot of the car

The lovely folks at Tinyme are offering my readers a chance to win a £40 voucher to spend on some of their goodies.

Sandwich Bags

Whilst I was writing this post, instead of doing my work, I had a really good look through their site and am loving the reusable sandwich bags, no more fighting with plastic bags or the roll of clingfilm in the morning.  I guess you just turn them inside out and give them a good wipe.

Personalised Journal

My daughter is a bit of a magpie when it comes to Stationery, which I think is true about a lot of girls here age.  Apparently, you can never have enough diaries/journals.  One of her favourite things to do when her friends come around is to do a bit of diary writing, goodness knows what they write in them, but I do here a lot of giggling going on.  Tempted to get her a personalised journal for Christmas.

Free Christmas Printables

I also noticed that they have an entire section of FREE printables including some for Christmas, the activities are rather swish unlike a lot of the naff printables you get on line.  I love FREE!  I’m definitely going to do a few of them with my daughter in the build up to Christmas.  However, I have a sneaking suspicion mine won’t look like theirs.

Win a £50 Voucher from Voucher Express for Mother’s Day

What is your perfect Mother’s Day Gift?

If someone asked me what my perfect Mother’s Day would be, it would be going to the local pub for a Sunday Roast with my family and a bottle of wine, which I hope to do this year.

I love the cards and gifts that my daughter makes and brings home from school.  Currently, she’s been sneakily creating something at home and keeps shouting at me to close my eyes or leave the room.  I can’t wait to see what it is.

It’s not just Mother’s Day Gifts, but birthdays, Christmas and Valentine’s as well, I’d much prefer to receive an experience, preferably something my daughter and I could do together (e.g. Theatre, Cinema, Dining out or a book we can read together)  .  A lot of the tat will slowly make its way through the house eventually ending up in a keep sake box in the loft or in the recycle bin.  However, the memories of a day out with my daughter will last forever.

Win a Hand-made Candle from The Heartwood Candle Company #giveaway

100% Natural Scented Candles from the Heartwood Candle Company

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Laura and Domique from Heartwood Candle Company, based in St Albans, Herts, learning how they make their hand-made natural candles with essential oils.  Apparently, I’m whisker extraordinaire!  I was truly impressed with the amount of love, care and detail that goes into each candle.

They weigh out the 100% natural soy wax, which is then gently melted, whilst melting the wax the glass jars, which are sourced locally, are heated to decrease the amount of temperature difference between the two or the wax may crack.

Essential Oil Candles Heartwood

Each candle contains 10% essential oils, which you will not find in cheaper alternatives.  The skill is in the aromatic blends, they spent months working out combinations that worked and as they said ‘they kissed a lot of frogs on the way’.  However, this has resulted in a range of candles that smell wonderful.

Each of the different scents comes with its own poem which was written collaboratively by Laura and Dominique.

The candles are beautifully wrapped in environmentally friendly packaging, with a hand-written card.  A perfect gift idea for Mother’s Day.

To Celebrate World Book Day #giveaway

Where to buy books in St Albans, Herts

I think it’s absolutely shocking that 3 in 10 kids in the UK do not own books.  I’ve never counted them but I’d hazard a guess that there are between 75-100 books upstairs in my daughters room.  She has everything from picture books to non-fiction.

I appreciate for some that this is down to financial circumstances but there are cheaper alternatives.  We often have book fairs in town,  local charity shops have shelves of them and there are a few book swap schemes around.

Libraries are eventually going to fade away. (via Forbes)

If I’m completely honest I tend to buy her books.  I should make more use out of our public library but I’m dreadful at remembering to return them on time and end up paying a reasonable amount in fines.

As a busy mum, I don’t really have time to be searching through all the books online, catalogues or in the bookstore so I tend to get my books from Lisa Nichols from Usborne.  She is passionate about books/literacy, very knowledgeable and full of personality.  You have not lived if you haven’t had the chance to have a cuppa with Lisa.  I simply tell her what topics she is currently doing at school and what reading level she is at.  I haven’t once been disappointed with her choices.

One of our best investments was the Box Set of Usborne Very First Reading Books, which is a collection of 15 books.  They start with parents and child alternating reading pages and you progressively move towards your child reading independently.  There are enough books in the set to cover at least a term, possibly more.

To celebrate World Book Day on the 6th March 2014, Lisa has kindly offered one of my readers a chance to win a Beginner’s Animal Pack New from Usborne this Spring which consists of 20 titles.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Cuthberts Toys  in St Albans and I have written about their excellent customer service on a couple of occasions.  I’ve known Kirit, the owner, for a few years now and he’s just a genuinely nice guy with a great sense of humour.
